Read: Galatians 6, Matthew 6:19-33
The back to school season has arrived. However, it is never too early to look ahead to plan with the end of year in mind. What is your mission this year? What expectations do you have for the year? In what ways do you envision your students - yourself - growing to meet your expectations and fulfill your mission? What can you do in the present season to foster growth in preparation for seasons to come?
Through the lens of Christianity, we can see that leaders throughout scripture remind us to look ahead to what our heavenly father holds in store for us. Jesus advised, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33), and Paul wrote, "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). If you are seeking the kingdom of God as your goal, you will make decisions that align with that goal and bear fruit that makes evident the mission you are serving. God knows our needs and strengthens us along the journey (Ephesians 3:16-19). Paul wrote the following words of encouragement: "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not" (Galatians 6:9).
These principles can also be applied in our classroom, work, and community environments. We can establish common goals with expected results, and then work together, supporting and encouraging each other along the way in taking steps to meet these goals and reach desired outcomes.
PRAYER: Thank you, God, for instilling in us a desire to seek you and live for you. Please continue to comfort, strengthen, and guide us as we make our way through each season of this year and this life. We serve you and ask for these blessings in Christ's name. Amen.
